EU orders
Since Brexit, which I personally feel was a profound act of self-harm on the part of the UK, posting to EU has become a lot more expensive. It has also become more complex, since each contry has slightly different VAT rates on books (varying from 3% to 25%), different Import duties, different ‘collection fees’ and different degrees to which these are all charged.
From feedback from customers we gather that most EU countries will now hold orders from the UK until VAT + Duties + Collection charge are paid. Annoyingly the ‘Collection charge’ is often the largest part of this, meaning some of our customers find their customs office wants €22 in fees to release the book.
We have started to find some ways to make this easier, though the tricky thing is that for a small company our size, being registered for VAT in the EU ourselves is far beyond our capacity (both cost and admin wise). However DPD do offer a fairly reasonable service to pay the duties in advance + a £5 fee, which will often work out cheaper than if you were to select postage only. I would therefore recommend that you choose this option, to avoid excessive costs once the book arrives to your country.
